Ever find yourself wanting to escape the confides of the concrete jungle, replacing the congested city air with the fresh breeze of pure unadulterated nature? Surround yourself with the best nature has to offer, in the small hill side town of Masinagudi. Nestled in the ranges of the Nilgiris, Masinagudi is regarded as one of the most prominent wildfire reserves in the country. If you like what you’ve read so far, then trekking in Masinagudi promises to be the experience of a lifetime.
As most of the areas in and around Masinagudi are well protected animal reserves, the options for trekking in Masinagudi are rather limited, with several areas of the reserves restricted to travelers. However, there are still a couple of trekking opportunities available for you to try out. Accompanied by experienced guides with adept knowledge of the area, you can set off on these truly magical treks along the hills and valleys surrounding the region. Be sure to charge up your camera batteries, as there will without a doubt be several serene locations along the way infested with the indigenous wildlife.
As access to most parts of the reserves are restricted, there are a couple of short treks one can embark on with trails littered with the rarest and most fascinating varieties of flora and fauna. These treks generally begin early in the morning, under the supervision of a guide, and cover around 7-8 km, which can be explored in about 3 or 4 hours.
Although trekking is not the ideal activity in reserves where animals roam freely, there are a couple of trails through the safer parts of the hillside. Rather than be trapped in a city surrounded constantly by the sounds of vehicles honking and ongoing construction work, replace it with the sounds of birds chirping over your head as you find your way up mountainsides to reach the spectacular view of the valleys below.
