About Dubare Elephant Camp

Nestled along the scenic Kaveri River in Coorg, Dubare Elephant Camp is a unique destination where guests can interact closely with elephants under the care of the Karnataka Forest Department. Once a training ground for elephants used in the Mysore Dussehra, the camp is now home to around 150 retired elephants.

Visitors can spend over three hours engaging in activities like grooming sessions, feeding, and learning elephant commands from mahouts. Naturalists provide insights into the elephants' history, biology, and ecology. Watch as the elephants enjoy their scrub baths and traditional care rituals in the river.

Beyond elephants, the surrounding forest teems with wildlife such as gaurs, leopards, wild dogs, sloth bears, and peacocks. During the monsoon months (July–September), the river swells, making it perfect for thrilling rafting experiences.

  • Walking around the property, watching elephants bathe, lazing on hammocks, the safari, exclusive attention etc. all added to making our stay fun. The coracle ride on a misty morning, during which we saw many birds at close quarters, was the highlight.
  • The camp was clean, well maintained and the staff knowledgeable about flora and fauna.
  • Peaceful stay. We went with my 5 years old son. Resort was children friendly. He enjoyed a lot. Room was kept clean. Dinner area all precautions taken. Elephant taking bath and jungle safari are highlights.
