All you want to know about the Experience
History and wildlife collide in this beautiful jungle stay that is a bucket-list topper for all nature and wildlife lovers! Situated on the outskirts of the Nagarahole National Park (Rajiv Gandhi National Park), the Kabini River Lodge was once the former hunting lodge of the former Maharaja of Mysore and has since been rated one of the Top 5 Wildlife Resorts in the World by the British Tatler’s Travel Guide. A massive colonial-styled resort nestled in the heart of elephant country, the lodge echoes a time long past.
Currently, the Kabini River Lodge echoes the principle of eco-tourism, helping their guests commune with the wildlife without disturbing the inhabitants of the forest. Situated by the banks of the River Kabini, this 54-acre, sprawling property comes with all the comforts you’re used to at luxury stays such as a well-stocked bar, Ayurvedic treatments, and fully equipped conference rooms for those who are on a corporate getaway. The Gol Ghar where you have your meals is more than a restaurant. A community-style eating hall surrounded by greenery, it’s a great place to socialize and spot the avian wildlife that flocks to the trees nearby. As the Gol Ghar is river-facing, you can watch the Kabini as it flows languorously in the distance. The buffet serves Indian, Continental, and Chinese cuisine so sink your teeth into scrumptious dishes during your stay!
The forests of the Nagarahole National Park that surrounds this lodge are teeming with herds of elephants, sambar, spotted deer, wild boar, langur, and even tigers and panthers. Morning or evening jeep safaris and boat safaris allow you to sight these gorgeous wild beasts of Karnataka as they saunter around their natural habitat. The thick green canopy above is the nesting place of multi-hued birds, and watching them flit from branch-to-branch, is a lovely experience. The River Kabini flows swiftly in some places and peacefully in others, inviting you to glide down its waters in a coracle boat made traditionally with bamboo or in a regular motorboat.
At night, the lodge glows warmly in the dark night of the Kabini, and this is the perfect time to unwind with a wildlife movie in the audio-visual hall or enjoy a smoky barbecue meal by a roaring campfire, as you watch the golden embers of the sky.
